Welcome to Hedgehog Class 

In Hedgehog class, your teachers are Mrs Gallant and Mrs Jackson, supported by Mrs Scott.

We are a mixed class of Nursery and  Reception children. We are kind, caring, thoughtful and eager to explore and learn. Our favourite things to do are to ask questions about the world around us, learn through play, enjoy the beauty of outside and getting creative.

We have had a fantastic start to our term, welcoming our new reception children. Next week we will begin to say hello to our new nursery members and we cannot wait to meet you all. 

Our first story this year is 'Sunny starts school' by Caroline Crowe. We have enjoyed meeting Sunny's new class friends Breezy, Mizzle and Drizzle, Frosty and Blizz!

Here are some pictures of the fun activities that Hedgehogs got up to in the Summer term before breaking up. 

Your children will come home with a reading pack at the beginning of the year. This will include, when ready, sound books, a sharing book and Read Write Inc home learning/books that match the sounds and level that they are working on in school. Please enjoy these with your children but also share with us any other fun reading that you do together. 

We love hearing about what fun activities the children get up to when not at school. It helps children connect home and school and further develops their love of exploration and the world around them with their peers and teachers.

 

We begin mark making and writing as soon as we start in Hedgehog class, first building on core strength with our squiggle activities and learning basic handwriting patterns. We enjoy lots of fine motor moments which lead to us learning letter formation for the sounds we learn in our phonics. This continuous approach allows us to strengthen and develop everyone at the pace that is right for them, supporting them along the way.
