At East Ravendale, we are passionate about helping every child become a confident, fluent reader. We teach phonics through the highly successful Read Write Inc. programme, which provides children with the essential skills they need to read, write and spell effectively.

Our daily phonics lessons are engaging, structured and tailored to meet the needs of each child. Through Read Write Inc., children learn to recognise sounds, blend them to read words and develop a love of reading from an early age. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that children receive consistent support both at school and at home.

We are proud of the progress our pupils make and the strong outcomes they achieve in the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. By building secure foundations in phonics, we help our children develop the confidence and skills needed for lifelong learning and success.

School Data

In Year 1, children take part in the statutory Phonics Screening Check, which assesses their developing phonics knowledge and reading skills. During the check, children are asked to read 40 words, including both real words and pseudo (alien) words, to demonstrate their ability to decode using phonics.

The Phonics Screening Check provides an opportunity to celebrate children's progress and identify any additional support that may be needed. At East Ravendale, we are proud of our pupils' achievements and the strong outcomes they continue to attain through our Read Write Inc. programme.
